Fire exit areas must be kept clear of stock and tripping hazzards for emergency use

Heaters must be kept clear of combustible material including fluff

Fire extinguishers must not be hidden by stock

sales area if portable heaters are used a suitable power point should be used and it should be situated away from falling paperwork

MANUAL HANDLING

SPECIFIC TO OUR OPERATIONS

Staff should study http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/iacl103.pdf and beware of our proceedures

Under no circumstances should certain staff carry out manual handling operations  defined as a risk 5 or above without the nessacery trainig. Or  unfit  staff,staff over 40 staff with medical conditions  that make them a higher risk than normal ie osterporosis already suffering from sprains aches flue.other tasks less  stenuos will be found for them

Manual Handling Assessments have been done for years at these premises the risks are well defined,and where possible alternative proceedures equiptment have been  provided already

A=KEEP BACK STRAIGHT WHEN LIFTING

B= TEAM LIFTING proceedure is to risk assess the task as weights vary get the driver to use his hoist if he has one to tow the carpet nearly half way out of the  lorry guage weigh (2 persons of equal build and  strengh)and clasp hands under roll decide on manpower needed 2 or 4 persons to manouvre on to trolley ready for  transporting 

C= CENTRE LOAD ON SHOULDER IFAfter assessing weight obstacles and route you know it is easily within your capabilities

D= VERIFY WEIGHT

E= CHECK ROUTE FOR OBSTACLES BEFORE CARRYING OUT TASK
